become a law and order issue and
the government cannot remain
silent.

Pak charity declines Modi’s donation
AFTER India’s prime minister Narendra Modi met Geeta (above),
the Indian deaf and mute girl who had strayed over the border
into Pakistan as a young girl more than a decade ago, he
announced a contribution of Rs1 crore to the charity (the Edhi
Foundation) which had cared for her. In a tweet, he said: “I don’t
think any amount of words are enough to thank the Edhi family
for taking care of Geeta. They are apostles of kindness and
compassion.”
Mr Faisal Edhi, son of the foundation’s founder, later explained
the reason for not accepting the donation. He said: “We have a
policy that we don’t accept donations from any government
including the Pakistan government. I request the Indian
government to use this money for hearing- and speech-impaired
children in India.”
